Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has outlined operational plans and new tools for the upcoming Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit (NMPU), aiming to create a specialized policing system for urban areas.
- The NMPU will serve as a prototype for similar units in other Kenyan cities, including Kisumu, Mombasa, Eldoret, and Nakuru.
- The unit will integrate with Nairobi's business community's CCTV systems, upgrading the city's surveillance network from NC3 to NC4, incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) for crime analysis.
- President William Ruto gave Murkomen a 60-day deadline to develop the full operational framework for the unit, following a February 17 cooperation agreement with the Nairobi County Government.
