National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah has revealed intelligence reports detailing the involvement of various Kenyan agencies and rogue officials in recruiting Kenyans, including ex-police and soldiers, to fight in the Russian military. These recruits, enticed by promises of high salaries and Russian citizenship, are reportedly being facilitated by corrupt officials and private agencies.
- Over 1,000 Kenyans have reportedly left the country, with at least 200 recruited into active combat roles as of February 2026.
- Recruits were promised monthly salaries of about Ksh350,000 and bonuses up to Ksh1.2 million.
- Rogue staff from the Directorate of Immigration Services, DCI, Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), and the National Employment Authority (NEA), as well as personnel from the Russian Embassy in Nairobi and the Kenyan Embassy in Moscow, are implicated in aiding the recruitment.
