The Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) and the Lake Tanganyika Authority (LTA) have signed a a five-year Memorandum of Cooperation to enhance the sustainable management and environmental protection of shared water resources in the Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika basins.

• This agreement aims to bolster joint efforts in integrated water resources management, environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate change adaptation.
• Executive Secretary of LVBC, Dr. Masinde Bwire, emphasized that the pact reflects a strong commitment to regional cooperation and safeguarding freshwater ecosystems.
• The partnership will develop projects for pollution control, invasive species management, and habitat restoration, alongside fostering climate change resilience through joint research and sustainable land management practices.
