The Kenyan Ministry of Health (MoH) has launched the National Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) steering committee to combat preventable maternal and newborn deaths.

• The initiative aims to ensure "every woman and every newborn survives and thrives—everywhere in Kenya."
• Key figures leading the effort include Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Aden Duale and Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary (PS) Mary Muthoni.
• This action follows alarming maternal mortality rates recorded in 20 counties in 2025, and will be operationalized through the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) acceleration plan.
