United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has solidified its influence in the Western Region by securing the West Kabras Ward Seat in a by-election held on February 26, 2026.

• Elphas Kainanga Shalakha of UDA won with 3,317 votes, defeating his closest rival who garnered 2,640 votes.
• The by-election saw significant competition and was marred by allegations of voter bribery, violence, and technical hitches, with both UDA and the Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) trading blame.
• Despite challenges, the voter turnout was 56.4 per cent, considered above average for a by-election, with the Returning Officer declaring the election free and fair.
