A Sh4.98 billion contract to upgrade a section of Mombasa Road has been awarded to China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), displacing local firms previously contracted for the work.

The contract value is Sh4,981,338,499.71.
The affected local firms included Shovels and Trowels Ltd, linked to Belgut MP Nelson Koech's wife, and Wolf Paving Ltd.
The contract was awarded to CRBC using the Specially Permitted Procurement (SPP) method on December 18.
