The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has released new 2026 Technical Specifications for mobile phones and other cellular devices sold in Kenya, aiming to enhance safety, compatibility, and user experience.

• Mandatory USB-C charging ports and detachable cables are now required for all mobile cellular devices.
• Mobile devices must now provide a minimum of 8 hours talk-time and 24 hours standby time.
• Devices must support 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G frequency bands, with provisions for future network generations.
• Strict safety standards include capped Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) limits and the prohibition of hazardous materials like Lead, Mercury, or Cadmium.
• Mandatory accessibility features for persons with disabilities, including screen readers and visual notifications, are now a requirement.
