The Embu High Court has ordered a limited scrutiny and recount of ballots and election materials from the Mbeere North Constituency by-election held in November 2025. This follows a petition challenging the victory of Leonard Wamuthende Njeru.

• The court has directed the Deputy Registrar of the High Court to oversee the opening of ballot boxes and scrutiny of materials at specific polling stations due to noted irregularities.
• The petition was filed by parliamentary loser Newton Kariuki Ndwiga of the Democratic Party (DP).
• The court cited incidents of violence, disrupted chain of custody for electoral materials, and alleged irregularities in the voter register as reasons for the ordered scrutiny.
