The Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) has launched a significant beekeeping initiative to boost incomes and promote conservation in the Lake Victoria region. This program aims to empower farmers and revitalize the environment through apiculture.

• KSh 4 million will be invested in providing 600 modern beehives and supporting infrastructure.
• Key organizations involved include the LBDA and HIVE Limited, the implementing partner.
• The initiative is set to expand beyond Homa Bay County to other areas within the Lake Basin region, including Kisumu County, Western Kenya, and parts of the Rift Valley, with farmer training focusing on diversification into high-value products.
