President William Ruto has vowed a decisive crackdown on "cartels" within the energy sector following the arrest and subsequent resignation of senior officials implicated in a fuel procurement scandal.

• A controversial fuel consignment was Sh4.8 billion more expensive than a comparable shipment procured through the government-to-government framework.
• Key figures including the Petroleum Principal Secretary, Mohamed Liban, Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Managing Director Joe Sang, and Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) Director General Daniel Kiptoo were arrested and resigned.
• The arrests follow a probe into an overpriced and reportedly substandard oil consignment that docked at the Port of Mombasa.
