French cement giant Lafarge has been found guilty in a Paris court of financing terrorism by paying millions of dollars to militant groups, including the Islamic State (IS), to maintain operations at its Syrian plant during the civil war.

Lafarge paid approximately $6.5m to groups between 2013 and 2014, including IS and the Nusra Front.
Eight ex-Lafarge employees, including former CEO Bruno Lafont (jailed for six years), were also found guilty of financing terrorism.
The court stated these payments allowed proscribed organisations to fund attacks across the Middle East and Europe and called the payments a "genuine commercial partnership with IS".
