Petrol up Sh28.69, diesel rises Sh40.30 in latest EPRA review - April 2026

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced significant price hikes for petrol and diesel in Kenya, with petrol increasing by Sh28.69 and diesel by Sh40.30 per litre. Transport costs in Kenya are expected to surge by as much as 14 percent due to the diesel price jump to Sh203 per litre. Commuters across Kenya are facing increased public transport fares as matatus and boda bodas pass on the costs of the recent fuel price hike. Kenya's Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority kept kerosene prices unchanged at Sh152.78 per litre thanks to a substantial government subsidy of Sh108. Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has proposed a significant reduction in fuel prices, suggesting measures that could lower pump costs by up to Sh27 per litre through tax relief and subsidies.
