Kenyan MPs are reviewing a draft bill that aims to significantly speed up the processing and renewal of Certificates of Good Conduct by eliminating the need for applicants to resubmit fingerprints for future applications.

• The National Police Service Amendment Bill, sponsored by Kandunyi MP John Makali, proposes to enable online renewals once biometric data is captured.
• The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) currently processes about one million certificates annually, leading to delays.
• The government is also upgrading its biometric system to a Multi-Biometric Identification System (MBIS), a project estimated to cost Ksh2.71 billion over five years.
