Kenya Airways (KQ) has boosted its operational capacity with the return of its grounded 787-8 Dreamliner fleet, positioning itself for a significant travel surge expected for the 2026 World Cup.

• The fleet's grounding in the first quarter of 2025 reduced KQ's operating capacity by 20 per cent.
• Acting CEO George Kamal received the first returned Dreamliner at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Saturday, May 9.
• The return of the Dreamliners is strategic for servicing long-haul routes, including the Nairobi to New York non-stop service, and is anticipated to benefit from the 2 million to 10 million international visitors expected for the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
