Kenya's Information, Communication and Technology Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has announced a significant crackdown on unregistered betting and gaming firms operating in the country due to widespread compliance failures.

• Out of 224 identified gaming and betting firms, only 15 are fully registered, with many others operating with expired certificates or failing to comply with data protection requirements.
• The crackdown involves a coordinated operation by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner and the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB).
• Gambling and lottery promotions are the primary focus, accounting for approximately 61% of recent enforcement actions, highlighting growing exposure, particularly among young people.
