Following his impeachment as Deputy President in October 2024, Rigathi Gachagua has adopted strategies similar to those of former ODM leader Raila Odinga. Gachagua has demanded an explanation from French President Emmanuel Macron regarding a Sh7.3 billion payout to French firms for a cancelled road project. Separately, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has apologized for the attempt to impeach Gachagua and called on the Mt Kenya region to repay a political debt.
