Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Kenya will automatically transition to the new Public Benefits Organisation (PBO) framework without needing to re-register, according to a notice from the Public Benefit Organisations Regulatory Authority (PBORA) on Thursday, May 14.

• Previously registered NGOs under the repealed NGOs Coordination Act No.19 of 1990 will transition automatically, easing fears of mass deregistration.
• The Public Benefit Organisations Regulatory Authority (PBORA) issued the clarification, contradicting an earlier directive from the Interior Ministry.
• NGOs are still required to update their records on the eCitizen platform, including submitting updated constitutions and governance details.
