Kenya is increasing disease surveillance and emergency preparedness following a World Health Organisation (WHO) declaration of an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

• Over 34,500 travellers have been screened nationwide as of May 18, 2026.
• Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale confirmed Kenya remains Ebola-free but is scaling up precautions.
• The outbreak in the DRC and Uganda has approximately 600 suspected cases and 139 suspected deaths, linked to a rare Ebola strain with no widely available vaccine or approved treatment.
