CNN correspondent Larry Madowo has been named Human Rights Defender of the Year by the Defenders Coalition for his fearless reporting and commitment to social justice.

• Madowo received a $1,000 (KSh 129,000) cash prize, which he will donate to an aspiring journalist in Kenya.
• The award recognizes Madowo's impactful coverage, particularly his reporting on Kenya's 2024 anti-government protests.
• In addition to objective reporting, Madowo was noted for his actions assisting protestors during the demonstrations.
