Kenya has launched the Kenya Conservancies Fund (KCF), a new financing facility aimed at supporting community-led conservancies to help meet the nation's target of protecting 30 percent of land and sea by 2030.
- The fund aims to transform conservancies from early-stage projects into viable conservation and livelihood enterprises, as currently only 1 percent of registered conservancies are financially stable.
- Led by the Kenya Wildlife Conservancy Association (KWCA), the initiative has secured initial funding from the German government (€950,000) and the Global Environment Facility ($1,147,733).
- Over the next 18 months, the KCF will support 12 conservancies, focusing on governance reforms, climate resilience, and nature-based enterprises like eco-tourism.
