The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has launched a new regional veterinary laboratory at Lewa Conservancy in Meru County to bolster disease surveillance and response across Northern Kenya.
- The Northern Kenya Veterinary Laboratory is a collaborative initiative involving five organizations, including KWS, Lewa Conservancy, Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT), the Wildlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI), and the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance Kenya.
- The facility establishes a regional One Health platform to enhance the health of wildlife, livestock, and communities.
- Opened by KWS Director General Professor Erastus Kanga, the laboratory aims to strengthen preparedness against emerging and transboundary animal diseases in a region where pastoralist livelihoods and significant wildlife populations coexist.
