The European Union (EU) and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) have launched the second phase of the Green Mini-Grid (GMG) Programme, aiming to provide renewable electricity access to over 100,000 Kenyans in underserved areas.
- The programme has already established 80 mini-grids across 8 counties, adding 2 megawatts of clean energy capacity.
- Key partners include the Government of Kenya, the EU, and AFD, with contributions also from the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
- This initiative, operating since 2016, directly supports Kenya's goal of achieving universal electricity access by 2030.
