A new report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) reveals that the primary reason for Kenyans returning from abroad is the end of their employment contracts or jobs.

• 59.2% of returned emigrants, numbering 29,892 individuals, cited contract expiry or job termination as their reason for returning between June 2024 and May 2025.
• The 2025 Remittances Household Survey Report, released on June 16, 2026, highlights economic reintegration as another significant factor.
• 7.6% of returnees planned to start businesses, and 4.9% sought opportunities in agriculture.
