The Kenyan Judiciary has officially opened a new Environment and Land Court (ELC) in Mavoko Sub-County, Machakos County, to enhance access to justice for land and environmental disputes.

• This specialized court will handle cases concerning environmental planning, land use, occupation, and ownership, including title disputes and adverse possession.
• The establishment was announced via a Gazette Notice by Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court Martha Koome.
• The new court aims to alleviate pressure on existing judicial stations and bring services closer to residents in the rapidly developing Mavoko area, a hub for land disputes due to urban expansion.
