Kenyan hospitals are facing a severe financial crisis, with the Social Health Authority (SHA) accumulating a debt of nearly Sh27 billion in unpaid claims as of March 31. This significant increase, more than tripling from Sh8.29 billion in December 2025, is straining healthcare facilities nationwide.

• The total outstanding debt owed by SHA to county health facilities stands at Sh26.87 billion.
