The National Biosafety Authority (NBA) has released a list of commercially approved GM plants, animals, microorganisms, and veterinary vaccines, mandating port agencies to enforce clearance rules for these products.

• The directive, issued on June 29, 2026, requires clearance from the NBA for any imported products derived from these approved GMOs.
• Key government agencies, including the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and KEPHIS, have been notified to cooperate.
• Approved GM plants for cultivation include Bt Cotton in several countries, including Kenya, and GM maize/corn approved in South Africa, Nigeria, and Ethiopia.
