Nairobi's wastewater treatment capacity has significantly increased following upgrades to the Ruai and Kariobangi Sewer Treatment Plants. This expansion aims to accommodate the city's growing population and improve environmental conservation.

• The Ruai plant's treatment capacity has more than doubled to 320,000 cubic litres per day.
• This enhancement is attributed to the expansion of the Kariobangi Sewer Treatment Plant from 30,000 to 90,000 cubic metres per day.
• The upgrades will help curb illegal sewage discharges, contributing to the cleaning of Nairobi's rivers and supporting agricultural use of treated water.
