Kenya is stepping up efforts to revive its coffee sector, with a national committee meeting with stakeholders from six western counties to boost production and farmer incomes.

• The government aims to restore coffee farming, a once-major cash crop that has seen declining production for decades.
• Representatives from Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Nyamira, Migori, and Kisii counties met with the National Steering Committee to Revive the Coffee Sector.
• Proposed reforms include ensuring at least 80% of coffee sale proceeds go directly to farmers, alongside efforts to distribute free coffee seedlings and address a shortage of quality planting materials.
