The Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) plans to import 1.9 million bags of fertilizer to support over 750,000 smallholder tea farmers. The first consignment is expected between August/September for distribution ahead of the October short rains.

• KTDA will import 99,000 metric tonnes (approximately 1.98 million bags of 50 kg) of NPK 26:5:5 fertilizer for the 2026/2027 season.
• This initiative aims to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of fertilizer to farmers, who can pay in installments through the KTDA fertilizer credit scheme.
• The cost of a 50 kg bag will be influenced by factors such as the cost of natural gas, exchange rates, and global supply constraints.
