The Ministry of Health (MoH) has alerted counties about high levels of pesticide residues found in popular vegetables like kale and spinach sold in Nairobi and Nakuru.

• Nearly 78% of tested vegetable samples contained pesticide residues, with about one-third exceeding international safety limits.
• The directive follows a study by the Kenya Organic Agriculture Network, the University of Nairobi, and SGS Kenya Laboratories.
• Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni Kariuki urged counties to strengthen food safety measures and educate consumers on proper washing and preparation methods, which can reduce residues by up to 70%.
