The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) has explained the delay in salvaging the grounded ship, MV Adan, off Nyali beach, Mombasa, amid concerns of oil pollution and vandalism.

• The refloating operation is scheduled to commence in mid-August 2026, pending regulatory approval and equipment arrival.
• KMA Director General Omae Nyarandi stated that the salvage plan is under regulatory and technical review.
• Yaa Holdings Limited has been appointed as the salvage contractor by the vessel owners.
• The cargo ship ran aground on May 18, 2026, while en route to Mombasa for refueling.
