- While Kenya has 36 gazetted SEZs, realized investment reached US$960.7 million by early 2024, creating only 4,392 jobs against a projection of 26,000.
- Key flagship SEZs, including Dongo Kundu and Naivasha, are experiencing delays due to land acquisition, compensation, and financing issues, as acknowledged by the Ministry of Investments.
- In contrast, the privately developed Tatu City has attracted over 88 operational companies, created more than 25,000 jobs, and secured over Sh400 billion in investment, highlighting the importance of serviced land and reliable infrastructure.
