A Murang'a man, Nelson Irungu, died at Murang'a Level Five Hospital on July 17, 2026, following a brutal assault that occurred after he was allegedly called to meet his girlfriend at a bar.

• Nelson Irungu was found with extensive injuries and died from severe head trauma and massive internal bleeding.
• The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is investigating conflicting accounts of the incident, including a police report suggesting Irungu was attacked by the public while attempting to break into a bar via the roof to steal an estimated Sh200,000.
