Vodacom has increased its representation on the Safaricom board by adding two directors, reflecting its expanded ownership stake in the Kenyan telecommunications giant.

Vodacom now holds five seats on the Safaricom board, taking one from the Kenyan government and one from Vodafone.
The new directors are Mariam Cassim, chief executive for fintech, and Matimba Mbungela, chief human resources officer, both from Vodacom.
This shake-up follows Vodacom's acquisition of a 15 percent stake from the Kenyan government and Vodafone's remaining 5 percent, increasing Vodacom's total ownership to 55 percent and giving it effective control of Safaricom.
