A General Service Unit (GSU) constable has been arrested in Eldoret for allegedly fatally shooting a 45-year-old woman during an altercation at the GSU Mess compound on August 30, 2026.

The officer, who was attached to a local governor as a bodyguard, fired multiple shots, killing the victim, identified as Doris Murei, instantly.
The suspect was apprehended on Sunday night in the Kaptinga area and a Jericho pistol with five rounds of 9mm ammunition was recovered.
Investigators suspect the officer sustained an injury on his left forefinger during the confrontation that preceded the shooting, and he is currently in custody awaiting charges of murder.
