A Taveta man has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for dealing in elephant tusks valued at Ksh350,000, marking a significant win for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The man was convicted of dealing in a trophy belonging to a critically endangered species, a violation of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, 2013.
The conviction followed an operation by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Kamboyo Investigation Team on June 16, 2024, after receiving intelligence in the Chala area.
The recovered tusks weighed 3.5 kilogrammes, and the sentence was delivered by Taveta Senior Principal Magistrate Cecilia Kithinji.
