University lecturers, represented by the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU), have issued a one-month ultimatum to the Kenyan government to finalize and sign the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) or face a fresh strike. The union expressed frustration over the prolonged delays in receiving a financial counter-offer, creating anxiety among its members.

• UASU, led by Secretary-General Constantine Wasonga, warned of issuing a seven-day strike notice if the CBA is not concluded within the stipulated month.
• The current impasse echoes previous delays, with the 2021–2025 CBA not being signed until November 23, 2024, with a phased implementation of its financial component.
• The union highlighted systemic issues including underfunding, inadequate staffing, and excessive workloads as contributing factors to the crisis in public universities, and rejected the idea of financing CBAs through student fees.
