Private Hospitals give government 14 days to pay SHA debts
Private Hospitals Issue 14-Day Strike Notice to Government Over SHA Debts - September 2025
The Rural and Urban Private Hospitals Association of Kenya (RUPHA) has issued a 14-day strike notice to the Social Health Authority (SHA), threatening to suspend services if the government does not settle outstanding debts. The association is also demanding the establishment of a dispute resolution court. Meanwhile, hospital patients are expressing dissatisfaction with SHA health insurance services. In Kisii and Nakuru counties, patients requiring treatment for diseases like cancer are being forced to pay for services once their insurance funds are depleted, raising concerns about access to care. Other patients also report complaining about poor services despite having paid for SHA insurance.
