Concerns Mount Over Social Health Authority (SHA) Debts and Coverage - November 2025

Uncertainty is growing around the new Social Health Authority (SHA) medical insurance scheme even before its official launch. Doubts have emerged regarding the health insurance for teachers under the SHA, causing concern within the profession. Simultaneously, Archbishop Anthony Muheria has called upon the government to urgently streamline the scheme to facilitate the payment of substantial debts owed to mission hospitals by the authority. These challenges are also affecting patients, as cancer sufferers in Kenya face difficulties accessing treatment while awaiting the implementation of the new health plan, which is scheduled to begin in December.
