These large bonuses are being offered for tournament success, turning the competition into a high-stakes financial pursuit alongside football glory.

• Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu pledged Sh 51 million (Tsh 1 billion) to the Taifa Stars if they win the title, following their 2-0 win over Burkina Faso.
• Kenyan President William Ruto promised Harambee Stars Sh600 million if they reach the finals, and a Sh1 million payout per player for every game won, with Sh 42 million already disbursed after their 1-0 victory against DR Congo.
• Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has committed Sh 43 million (1.2 billion Uganda shillings) per match won for the Cranes.
