President Ruto Vows Prosecution of Hospitals Over SHA Fraud; CS Duale Faces Impeachment Calls - August 2025

President William Ruto announced that one thousand hospitals will face prosecution for fraudulently attempting to benefit from the Social Health Authority (SHA). In the wake of the scandal, which involves the suspension of 1,300 hospitals, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has stated he will not resign despite calls from some Members of Parliament. Duale also said action would be taken against looters of SHA funds. In response, Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo announced plans to initiate impeachment proceedings against the CS. The controversy has also impacted services, with St Mary's Mumias Hospital closing its doors due to alleged unpaid dues from the SHA.
