Senate Saves Kericho Governor Eric Mutai from Impeachment After 26-16 Vote - August 2025
Kericho Governor Eric Mutai has survived his second impeachment attempt after the Senate voted to stop the proceedings against him. During a contentious, late-night session, 26 Senators voted to save Governor Mutai, while 16 Senators voted to proceed with his removal from office, with one Senator abstaining. This was the second time the governor has evaded impeachment. The impeachment hearings before the Senate, where Mutai was fighting for his political future, focused on the integrity of the electronic voting system used for his ouster on August 15, 2025. MCAs continued their bid to remove the governor from office during these proceedings.
