The government has granted a 10-month reprieve to 7,400 Universal Health Coverage (UHC) staff, halting their planned transfer to county payrolls. For the upcoming year, the Ministry of Health will continue paying their salaries at SRC rates. The fate of these UHC staff had remained uncertain as the Council of Governors (CoG) demanded KES 7.7 billion before it would absorb them. Despite this standoff, the Ministry of Health and the Council of Governors have also passed a resolution to eventually employ the UHC staff on permanent terms.
