Former UN trade chief Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi has been appointed spokesperson and Head of Secretariat for the United Opposition, a coalition aiming to challenge President William Ruto in 2027. The announcement was made on Wednesday evening by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following a strategy meeting.

• Dr. Kituyi previously steered the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) for eight years (2013-2021) and served as Minister for Trade and Industry in Kenya.
• The coalition, currently a loose arrangement, includes Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens Party, Kalonzo's Wiper, Martha Karua's People's Liberation Party, Eugene Wamalwa's Democratic Action Party–Kenya, Justin Muturi's Democratic Party, and Jubilee.
• Leaders, including Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Karua, Wamalwa, Fred Matiang’i, and Muturi, have been frequently meeting to consolidate their ranks and plan joint activities, such as an upcoming rally in Kisii.
