Airtel Kenya, through its subsidiary Nxtra by Airtel Africa, has broken ground on what will be East Africa’s largest data center. Located at the Tatu City Special Economic Zone, the facility will have a planned capacity of 44 megawatts (MW). This groundbreaking for the $150 million project took place on September 9, 2025. The development aims to position Kenya as a major digital hub, reducing reliance on overseas data services. This infrastructure investment comes as Airtel Kenya prepares to launch its home fiber internet service, Airtel Fibre, in the coming months, entering a market in competition with rivals like Safaricom.
