Airtel Kenya, via its Nxtra by Airtel Africa subsidiary, has broken ground on what will be East Africa’s largest data center at Tatu City Special Economic Zone. This development positions Kenya to become a major digital hub, reducing reliance on overseas data services.

• The facility will deliver 44 megawatts of IT power capacity in phases, starting with two 22MW stages.
• The project is expected to be fully operational by 2027, featuring GPU-ready, high-density racks and promising 99.999% uptime.
• The data center will draw power from Tatu City’s 95% renewable energy supply, making it one of the most sustainable globally.
• ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo emphasized that the project reflects confidence in Kenya’s economy and vision for a digitally enabled society.
• Tatu City offers business incentives including a 10% corporate tax rate for the first decade.
