U.S. Sanctions Sudan Minister; South Korea Probes U.S. Raid; Trump Threatens Russia Sanctions - September 2025
The U.S. Treasury Department has sanctioned Sudan’s Finance Minister Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim Mohamed Fediel and the Al-Baraa Bin Malik Brigade (BBMB) for their role in the country’s civil war. The conflict has killed approximately 150,000 people and displaced over 14 million. Separately, South Korea is investigating potential human rights abuses after a US raid led to the detention of over 300 South Korean workers for a week at an electric vehicle battery plant in Georgia. The South Korean government has expressed "strong regret" to the US government over the incident. In another development, US President Donald Trump has declared his readiness to impose stricter sanctions on Russia, on the condition that NATO nations cease purchasing Russian oil.
