Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has presented himself before the Senate following his defiance of previous summons, amidst failed attempts to have him arrested. This comes after a dramatic standoff where police surrounded his office after he defied an order to appear before a Senate watchdog committee. The Council of Governors (COG) has expressed concerns over the alleged excessive force used by the Office of the Inspector General of Police in an attempt to arrest the governor. Meanwhile, Kitutu Chache MP Anthony Kibagendi has been suspended from the National Assembly for another 14 days following a finding of gross disorderly conduct, marking a further blow to the legislator who was previously barred indefinitely. The Linda Wananchi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party plans to sue National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula over the suspension.
