Australian loses KSh 77M in Nairobi gold scam - April 2026

An Australian investor has been defrauded of over KSh 77 million in a sophisticated gold scam while in Nairobi. The Kenya Human Rights Commission is preparing to launch legal action against a gold investor in Ruala, Siaya county, citing alleged oppressive mining operations. Leaders in Kakamega are also opposing a gold mining license approval, citing unresolved disputes over land ownership and community benefits. Additionally, the Kenyan Commission for Human Rights has threatened legal action against a mining company implicated in deaths of several individuals in Ramula, Siaya County.
