KHRC Alleges Killings in Siaya Gold Mining Dispute - April 2026
The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) has accused Kenyan state security agencies and Shanta Gold Kenya Limited of human rights violations following the killing of at least two residents in Ramula, Siaya County on Monday, April 6, 2026. The KHRC is preparing to launch legal action against the gold investor, citing alleged oppressive mining operations. Separately, leaders in Kakamega are opposing a gold mining license approval, citing unresolved disputes over land ownership and community benefits. An Australian investor has been defrauded of over KSh 77 million in a sophisticated gold scam while in Nairobi.
